Winamp is dead. Ever since the original programmer (Justin Frankel) left and it has been sold to AOL, it has gone downhill.

Version 5 is the last version we an hope to expect. Just like Sonique after it was bought by Lycos.

I just downloaded the version 5 on my dads laptop and listening to www.di.fm through it right now..
Love the program.. Hope they keep developing it and wont let it go bye bye.

Oooh.. great song playing right now on the Vocal Trance section.

AOL BLOWS. Great, now they own one of the *used to be* best music apps -.- That thing took NO resources to run - you could use it with a damn remote control. Now it's going to be loaded with malware, data miners and have a huge climb in resource consumption, for all it's "Special online features," which'll be nothing but ads for more AOL crap.

Somebody, somewhere, is planning to bomb the AOL headquaters.

AOL needed to combat the iCrap (podcasting)

the 5.1 does have the added useless codecs of apple.

apple must be going broke by now for adversiting there crap; winamp personal servers where around seince when? 1996?

Yes, but I just noticed all the AOL music crap in the Online Music of the media library.

It is also the first time I actually read the pages about the origin of winamp.

The word podcast pisses me off too. They celebrated the 10 year anniversary of streaming audio months ago

Then I looked up the actual definintion of podcast and apparently it's not a podcast unless there is an RSS feed to go with it. Either way it's just another stupid term that will baffle people new to the net - or maybe that's just my dislike of the words podcast and podcasting showing through.
